Occupational Correlates of Fear of Violence, Harassment and Threats Among 112 Emergency Aid Health Workers (Ankara, Turkey)

BAC KG R O U N D: The aim of the study was to inv e st ig ate soc io d em o gr a p - hic and occ up at i onal corr el ates of fear of viol e nce, ver - b a l / p h y s ical har a s sment, verbal threat, and physical as - saults among health workers who work in 112 emer - gency aid serv ices in Ank ara prov i nce (Turk e y ) . M ET H O D S: Sample has been selected with multi-stage cluster sampling method from the universe (N=360) and consisted of total 200 persons. Data has been collected in December 2002 according to self-reportings of the study group by the application of a questionnaire form with face-to-face interview technique. R E S U LT S: Of 200, 73.5% of the crew rep o rted to have fear of v i o l e nce, 55.8% rep o rted to be exp osed to verb a l / p h y s i - cal har a s sment. Poss i ble causes of the stat i st ically sign if i - cant diff er e nces that had been found betw een soc i - o d e m o gr a phic and occ up at i onal subg r oups has been tri - ed to put in to light. CO N C LU S I O N S: Necessity of organizational intervention strategies is e m p h a s i z e d .
